In principle, business is, to some extent, the ability to do what others cannot do.

However, a businessman cannot do some things right away and immediately, because he has not done them before and he needs to learn how to do them. A businessman will learn and do, there is no doubt.

However, there is a problem and it consists in the fact that you need to spend time studying. Sometimes you need to spend a lot of time, a lot. At the same time, while you are studying, knowledge may become obsolete and you will have to learn again and so it can go on forever.

This is where the question arises: is it worth wasting time only on what you already know how to, and at the expense of the rest get advice, or study everything yourself. Many businessmen prefer to turn to consultants, because it is more profitable than constantly studying. At the same time, there are different types of consulting and a businessman is faced with the choice of which one to use.

Especially often, businessmen have to turn to marketing consultants. At the same time, one of the questions the answer to which they want to get is whether or not marketing is necessary for the business. In this regard, consulting in the field of marketing is different. This can be consulting on market research, development of marketing plans and strategies, creation of marketing services.

In fact, these types of consulting are just the transfer of information from a person or company who is more informed in this matter to a person or company that is less informed in this matter, which allows this type of consulting to be called “catch-up consulting”. Its essence is the pumping of missing information by someone who is behind others.

Catch-up consulting is very useful and widely used. It allows you to receive the missing information and thereby increase the efficiency of companies. However, it has one significant minus – it does not allow creating a significant competitive advantage. On the contrary, this type of consulting is a way to teach what others can do.

In fact, this type of consulting even equalizes the level of competitiveness in the market, and does not allow you to break away from competitors. The equal competitiveness of companies has a very bad effect on the market, because it helps to reduce the rate of profit on it. The decrease in the rate of profit makes the market unattractive and uninteresting.

No matter how good the catch-up consulting is, it has its limits. Therefore, it is advisable to use other types of consulting. Until recently, it was believed that in the field of marketing, catch-up consulting was almost the only possible type of consulting. However, it has recently become apparent that there is another type of consulting – developmental.

The difference between developing consulting and catching up is that it allows you to create real competitiveness among companies that use it. Catch-up consulting equalizes the level of competitiveness, brings it closer to the level of market leader. Developing consulting, on the contrary, allows you to break away from your competitors and become a leader.

Developing consulting is a kind of analogue of doping in sports, only doping is not for sports, but for business. Moreover, this is legal doping, which can be used without consequences. The newer knowledge is given in the process of developing consulting, the more serious is the competitive advantage and the more significant separation from competitors.

Catching up consulting eliminates heterogeneity, developing – creates it. Developing consulting is the aerobatics of consulting, but only if the rules and especially the rules of marketing are followed.
